I noticed on another Thread someone trying to find a name for his new boat.

My question is, Swmbo has suggested we change our boat name, but an old saying is, that doing so brings bad luck, so we have left it as it is "Calypso" . What do you think about this, is it unlucky, or is it a load of old fashion rubbish.

I don't there's anything particularly unlucky about the name "calypso" and you're being a bit harsh on yourself to say the name is old fashioned rubbish.

I heard that it was okay to change it, as long as you then never mention the old name on board.

Probably more rubbish of course !

That said, thinking of new boat names is hell... took us 4 months to come to a decision !

why not change the name subtly, for instance you could call it 'my' calypso ou 'our' calypso or even 'apo' calypso

Methinks did read somewhere's about a boat-renaming ceremony involving alcohol consumption in copious amounts, and calling upon various seagods (when obviously well and truly 3 parts...nay 4 parts pi**ed).

Might have been boatsafe?
