Hi Guys and Gals
I have had boats for a number of years so know the basics.
Question is do new boats come with manuals.
some say yes some say no.
I am in the process of buying a Picton Spirit 3000 (1990 Ish), this is the biggest boat i have ever had and there are lots of systems on it which i have no clue about does anyone know if this boat came with a manual, user guild anything which explained the systems aboard.
If anyone has one i would gladly pay for it if you no longer need or if you could get it photocopied i would pay, or if one was never made then i guess ill just be sad and get on with pushing all the buttona and putting petrol in the water tanks
Cheers for any help ppl
Ps have looked all over the internet and cant find a thing, have rung picton and they were bought out no one seems to know anything about the boat in the new company so have hit a dead end and am relying on the forums for any info.
Cheers
Steve

Nowadays I think it's an EU requirement for new boats to come complete with a manual but it wasn't always thus - and it's always a bit tricky to define how far this should go, because a boatbuilder normally makes the bare hull, and then equips it with other peoples' products.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't compulsory to provide a manual twenty years ago, so you may struggle - though if there's anywhere you're likely to get a result it's here or on on Boatmad, which is probably your best bet, as most of the people on there are enthusiasts of high-performance boats like Pictons.

Good luck!

As an ex owner of a Spirit 3000.......Ours also was minus a manual.
But fair to say that boat manuals from that period tend to be very basic anyway. Not the font of all knoweledge they are now. Pre CE. tc etc.

Only hope would be to find an existing owner who's boat still has the manual, and ask for a copy.

Although we parted with ours 5 years of so ago, and memory is not what it was, if I can be of any help let me know.

Are you sure if yours is a Roger Clarke or a Picton manf. boat. Subtle differences bewteen the two in the way of systems, mainly electrical.

I do hope were not going to get into the my Fairline manual is better that your Sealine manual. But his Princess Manual is better than both etc etc.

Basic point..... boats made in the late 80's or very very early 90's ie pre CE. When we were all presumed to know what we were doing. And from a very low volume producer ( I seem to recollect there were only around 30 Spirit 3000's made) Rarely ever came with a 100 page 4 colour manual.

There are two YBW Spirit 3000 boat tests available, one when the boat was first launched, the other a used boat test. Both of which make interesting reading for any new owner.

The manual that came with my new MF705 was as about as useful as a chocolate teapot - must be to do with French interpretation of EU requirements.

Our manual is lacking as well, how do you get the third bank of oars pulling in time with the rest of the fifty?? we have a "whip round" now and again but things soon go to pot again.

cheers for the replys all.
Guess i'll have to start pushing buttons and pulling things apart to see what happens, all the more fun i guess hehe.
doesnt sound like there are any good manuals for the boat so its down to playing with stuff.

If i get sorted i may see you on the water soon.

Cheers
Steve
