We shot this in Antibes on Saturday Night ... I have to confess I haven't stopped watching it ever since ... and the real thing is even better.
Lumishore Colour Change

Not shot by a professional, an impulse opportunity ..

- Shot by .. a 16 yo
- Cut by ... the same 16 yo
- Images by .. the same 16 yo
- errgghhh .. music by ... the same 16 yo

and prepared over breakfast, makes you feel old !

Very impressive.
Could be worth fitting astern that powerful bilge pump we debated some time ago.
A psychedelic rooster tail would be the ultimate head turner! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Ah, good idea. I have the pump.

We learnt quite a bit from doing that video, on how not to do it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Next one will be much better, better camera angles and stuff. Watch this space /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyone got a view on what connection there is between boating and the producing of 'pretty colours' from under your boat?. No wonder the 'rag and stick' brigade thing that powerboaters are all narcissisic and have incredibly bad taste to boot. Goes with the increasing trend you see in MBM & MBY about the most important thing on a boat being the 'entertaining' facilities. If this is what you truly want, buy a house by the sea or a caravan park chalet!!

There is no connection imo apart from having fun. Before you ask - no I don't have them fitted but my view is...

Different strokes for different folks - live and let live and all that /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Noone is going to argue that underwater boat lighting is a matter of personal choice.

However, to argue that it is 'for Motor Yachts' only is wrong in my experience. At the Antibes show we received interest from a number of sailing boat owners including prospective orders from a Lagoon 620 owner, a Benny 36 and 2 Jeanneau's and have already sold to sailing boat owners - all interested in our ability to fit powerful lighting which 'flush-fits' with the hull ... and lots more interested in Drainplug 'Riblite' replacements or outboard 'Drivelites' for their tenders and ribs.

I enjoy both sail and power and always thought that leisure or pleasure boating was about entertainment and enjoyment . Im not going to argue that the experiences are 'the same' but underwater lighting is down to personal preference not 'type of boat'.

Exactly!, and suprisingly I have noticed it is rag and stick. Also, before you think it I am a rag and stick man, I have never possessed a sailing smock, a dicky sailing cap, a beard, a subscription to PBO, a pair of green wellies, or a grudge!. BUT I do wonder where things such as underwater lighting are taking the concept of boating. Also as I said earlier the intense focus placed by the boating mags on entertainment areas, which are all very well until you have to access something. E.G. First remove your white leather sofa, white carpets, furniture, hatch covers and then you can access your water pump... What is the 'modern concept' of boating?, remain in the marina full time and entertain your guests?, go for a run out to sea, 'Surely not George, the flower vase will fall over!!'

Hmm, I guess you don't understand how and where these are used. Generally in the med or florida where a lot of evening boating and anchoring takes place. The additional ambience these lights create at night is very alluring and relaxing and is conducive to evening swimming/ bbqs and is a general entertaiment feature. Why should anyone have to justify why they might want to use these lights?

:-) Hey it's ok for you not to like u/w lights. Strange though that you turn it to an attack on the personal character of those who have them. Narcissistic - blimey, what a bigotted view. There are loads of things I don't like but that's as far as it goes - I don't create in my head an animosity to folks who do like those things. That would be, and in your case is, sad.

Sitting in a quiet anchorage or crossing the sea at night with the lights on does genuinely entertain guests. It really is nice to look at in many people's opinion. Children walk by the boat (when on the dock) in the evening and say "Hey Mister when are you turning the lights on!"

But I've drifted onto entertaining. Surely you don't really mean to criticise those who run a boat in large part as an entertaining space? And surely you can see there is no engineering conflict between good entertaining spaces and access to pumps or whatever (if not, it's badly designed imho)? Lots of people like to invite friends and family, or even business associates, onto their boat and share the fun of it. It's basic human nature to enjoy those things in company. It's small minded to think that a boat must be pure function and no entertainment, and that those who want to entertian should get a house or a chalet

You have of course missed the point!. My question was really designed to raise a discussion on where boatining is going, not at the level of personal critisism. Review your own post , I would say your comments about me are a trifle more bigoted. Also many modern boats ARE poorly designed when it comes to access. Ambiance is a great feature and, if you change your boat every couple of years you are unlikely to be affected by the practicalities of having something fixed/fixing it. Re entertaining I am all for a great social scene, but people are very much into the own space concept these days. Sadly, this is why many yacht clubs struggle to get social events participated in. Sorry if you read the wrong aspect into what I said, but , there you are!

Exactly?!?
Blimey, if you really think that Meteor is an example of bad taste, I wonder which boats you're used to cruised with.
'fiuaskme, I'd sail the seven seas on any Royal Huisman vessel also with a multi-colour anti-airplane search light flashing inside my cabin.

Not that I have any but I think they look fun. Mind you they'll need regular cleaning unless they invent a see through antifoul.

Mobo world is getting more glitzy but if that's what people want, so be it.

What's next, spandex sails? Glitter effect gel coat?

In fact when I saw jfm's boat on Friday night, it was interesting to note that the mullet seem to like to come right up to the light and have a bit of nibble at it. It did make me wonder if there is some sort of application here for lighting the entire hull in some way (obviously not with through-hull fittings!) so that it becomes attractive to the fish, who then keep it clean... thin-film led technology praps??

Cheers
Jimmy

I think your assumption that entertaining and the facilities provided on board a motor yacht to provide such is poor design and engineering or just plain silly is a somewhat silly statement in its self.

We are building an 80' one of these at the moment for a client and it is loaded with every imaginable piece of entertainment you could think of.

Underwater lighting (down the sides as well as the stern)
SAT TV
SAT Comms
B&O TV's in each cabin with theatre surround sound
Hifi piped throughout
Mood lighting
Intercom telephones
Silk and satin bed covers
Designer drapery and soft furnishings

The list goes on.

Yet she is hugely engineered for long distance passages in all weather conditions, total sea bashing ability and everything is accessible through hatches or installed in the walk in engine room.

As for JFM's machine, probably one of the best planing flybridge yachts ever made, well founded and a very capable cruising yacht and loaded with every convenience for life on board.

Ok forget the bling aspect. Have you ever seen a swimming pool without under water lights and a ladder, well why would you have a swim platform with a swim ladder without underwater lights? Apart from the ambience there could be a genuine safety aspect here when bring a mob back aboard at night or when boarding/ leaving a tender as the whole transom area is illuminated!
