Afternoon all, I'm still looking to buy a boat this spring, I have seen a Crownline 270 that I look the look of on the internet based at Cobbs Quay. SWMBO likes the cockpit layout which actually makes a change!

I have asked the broker some questions about the boat (hours,
service history, why it's being sold etc) and they answered none of them! Just told me it'll be ready to view in a week after 'some engine work'.

Just hoped someone here might know the boat and be able to offer some insight. I'll try to get down and see it when it's available but the dealers comments made me wonder what engine work is being done!? Thanks.

Hmm ... a broker reluctant to answer questions and telling you about engine problems … I think you should forget that one and keep looking at other 27 footers. They all have similar cockpits at that size and you will find something you like just as much which hopefully hasn't got engine problems. There's hundreds out there and it's a buyers market - make a daft offer whatever you find and go up from there!

+1.
Had a Crownline 250 CR with petrol engine years ago. The hull was very strong built and we liked the brand very much. Had it 10 years without major problems. But if the broker won't tell you anything, I would be careful. If you want to buy a car and ask some questions about it , it´s often the grandma´s garage car, which was not used very often, and not used during winter...

Have you asked what engine work?
I'd be curious
As sales d previously 27ft sports cruisers are the Mondeo/Focus is f the boat world, plenty about
Personally I'd seek out a diesel

There was a crownline but can’t remember the model near the dry stack area which looked as if It needed a lot of attention ! if you’re based near Cobbs it’s amazing how much you can learn just talking to people there.

Thanks for all your replies, I agree about concerns regarding the dealer not answering questions. I didn't know if this was common practice for dealers or not. I'll ask the dealer again including what work is ongoing. I'll also take a drive down and speak to a few people at Cobbs.

It's easy to get a bit carried away when you spot something that looks nice. It's also, when in that frame of mind, easy to get persuaded by a pushy broker. Over the years I've been promised all sorts of garbage from brokers! For some reason they assume you know nothing about boats and will try to take advantage. Any doubt at all about this one walk away and keep looking. There are still a few honest ones about - two of them post on here! Be aware!

2005 Crownline 270CR

Just realised I didn't include the link in my original post. I'm not going to rush into anything, I'll contact the dealer again and if I get some satisfactory answers I'll view the boat but with a huge amount of scepticism.

Some of those items listed as done in 2015 are items you would not expect to need fixing at that age and for them to all require fixing in the same year would in my book be unlucky so I would be trying to find out what went on. See if you can find out who did the work and have a chat with them.

Thanks again to all replies, I agree about the large amount of work done in 2015 yet no other servicing mentioned and no pictures of the engine. Great forum!
