Was awoken this morning about thoughts of going to a boat jumble getting stuff for the boat at a good price......then I pondered some more.Would I spend more on renting a car ,admission, food etc and the big if coming away from the jumble with a load of stuff that was cheap that I thought I needed, the temptatin to buy some trinket would be overwhelming I am sure!

Well when I refitted three years ago I treated boatjumbles as the day job-went to every single one along the south coast, and great fun it was.Very often my second offer would be accepted by the regular stall holders seen last weekend, so to speak.
I had a long list, a wish list, a fanciful list and a list of lists....:)
They are ( or can be) fantastic places if you are good with your hands and can remake or modify stuff or are looking for particular spares no longer generally available.
And you bump into people

More importantly there was an awful lot of new hardware and rigging doing the rounds because of the banking crisis and chandleries in receivership/overstock/distress/selling up and moving on/remnants.

Cordage is the obvious one, new quality rope for 20% of the nominal price.
Deck hardware another.
I spent well and was able to maximise my general refit budget in this way.

Not sure how much of this remains true this year?

And yup, take some sarnies and a thermos, saves a packet. Better to team up with a van owner perhaps next time and split the fuel cost?
