What sort of things am I likely to find at a place like this? Am i likley to be able to buy guages etc?

I would expect you to be able to buy guages, I have done in the past. You can buy allsorts of things though unlikely to find sails. The weather forcast is wet but Newark has massive building so you can be inside most of the time, unless you want to rummage about the cheap outdoor stalls.

You'll find lots of things which have mysteriously gone missing from other people's boats! Best not to encourage this trend.

Hardly fair.

There are lots of stalls selling new stuff, old stock and surplus stuff, as well as quite a few stalls selling obscure old boat bits that you can't imagine anyone wanting to buy.

The boat jumbles I've been to are generally good for buying rope, antifoul (in dented tins) fenders, shackles and bits & bobs, soundproofing, hose, deck tread, plus anything else you might be looking for that happens to be on sale. Often some new electronics (including gauges etc) too.

There are usually 2nd hand outboards for sale too, but I think these are the stalls pvb is talking about and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
No history, no guarantee, no comeback, no trace. Therefore No Chance!

That's true, but this invariably means they can be bought quite cheaply.

I have had several bargain outboards that just needed a service. Still in use now.

I think your well out of order, making a statement like that !
Years ago the police clamped down on the thieves every boat jumble I've been to the police have been present. I don't think many thieves would want to risk trying to sell stolen gear in front of the police. Boat jumbles are still the best place to find good gear cheap or should I say the price you want to pay because you can see it and make your mind up, unlike ebay where you hope the seller gives a good description
