The Boat Jumble Association's new website is now fully live - http://www.boatjumbles.org.uk check it out for all the info about boat jumbles in the uk.
Grump, Grump, Grump. I think it's quite modern and up-beat. There's clear instructions on how to download all the information for the old and grumpy too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Nothing personal! Your comment just happened to coincide with a conversation on another forum about people who moan about everything. Sorry if I offended. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
if you display all - all the events scroll in some seemingly random order - not in date order, which might be useful - whats that all about? Who in their right mind would want to search for a jumble by organiser?
Looks like design by committee to me
I'm afraid I'm with the "what a poor site" contingent.
* There's a form on the left to select month or organiser, but appears to do absolutely nothing. It just refreshes the current page.
* I don't know what's in the Flash animation. I hope nothing important (yes Flash can look very pretty but is hardly the most accessible way of presenting information).
* The map is a nice idea, and appears to work from a technical point of view. But the map doesn't correspond to the underlying data - eg if I click on the pale blue area that clearly includes Essex, it does not give me the Essex boat jumble.
* Yes, if you look, there is a link to a pdf of dates, but:
- the link is hidden at the end of a paragraph of text, not anywhere near any of the other navigation links
- pdf is lovely for printing out, but shouldn't be used as primary content
* full marks for getting the page css compliant. But the html is a mess - 219 errors.
Accessibility would be hugely improved if somewhere there was a link to a simple HTML list of boat jumbles.
I mean a simple HTML list, clearly linked from the front page, not a half-megabyte pdf document deep-linked in a forum, or linked from mid-text away from all other navigation.
That new site is a nightmare. Who in their right mind would want to start clicking away on that new site when all the information is to hand on the old format?
This is just another example of people totally out of touch with reality puting time and effort in -------to step backwards---and also to make life more difficult for others.
so if My Club wants to become part of the association because we are holding a boat jumble in May, how do we do that? There is no facility, as far as I can see to allow me to do this.
