Boat Interior fabrics

We are considering refurbishment over the Winter, can we use normal cotton or cotton mix fabrics ? The existing fabrics never seem to feel damp are they a special fabric or are they treated with some mysterious substance and if so does anybody know the name of the Product please.

When we had one boat upholstered we were given loads of choice, by the builders, but what mostly looked like pub furnishings, so I chose my own from John Lewis's. As long as it's an upholstery fabric, and not curtaining. I don't think it was then treated in any way.

I had my saloon redone last year. Just ordinary furniture stuff. But get something that does not show marks easily and something that can stand a bit of bashing.
