This post is inspired by MedwayNewbie's post where several people state what they pay for annual insurance.

For 30' boat approx amounts of £125 - £250 were mentionned.

Mine's a 1983 Feeling 920 30' and I pay considerably more than that : > €700. I have been with the same company for more than 20 years and have never made a claim. And I have never re-negotiated the premium.

My questions are :

Are these amounts typical?
Do UK insurers insure foreign based (owner and) boats?

For sure British insurance cos will insure foreign based boats
I have 29ft Beneteau (1985), marina based in Crete, boat British regd, I live permanently in Crete.
Premium 110 pounds with full cover from Yachtline (UK co) They even sent me a Certificate of Insurance in Greek!

A Greek friend with a Greek made and regd boat now insures his with them as way cheaper than Greek cos.

I'm with GJW - £350ish fully comp. £45k boat

I'd heartily recommend them - they were able to negotiate on a lot of the standard restrictions (i.e singlehanding). I recently had to claim, which was very efficient and painless. I wish I could insure my car through them...

1999 Bavria 36, Marina all year in Croatia, I live in Germany, Boat U.K. registered, Cruising Area: Med west of Israel, North of Africa: insured value 36,000€ - CJW Direct (U.K.) €281

That sounds astonishing value,I can only assume it is third party without a survey report being demanded
I'm being quoted more than that back here in the UK for a 27' boat & a value below £10,000

2002 Bavaria 32, insured value £50,000, Brest to Elbe all year, Bordeaux to Stavanger in summer, annual policy £240 with Craftinsure, and no that's not just third party. (Third party liability £3,000,000)

In my experience insurance companies are competitive when they are trying to pinch you off someone else and much more expensive when you come to renew. This applies to house, car and boat. I very rarely insure with the same company two years running. And when I do, it usually involves a major reduction from the renewal premium they sent originally.

Customer-loyalty counts for NOTHING in the insurance world.

My premium, with Yachtline, has been the same for the last 2 years (110 GBP) and they have advised me that when I renew next year I will get a reduction of 20% provided I make no claim this year.
