Boat industry takes its first red fuel hit

10 weeks ago we spent a lot of time at SIBS choosing our next boat. We narrowed it down to the Fairline p40. All things going well we would have marketed our boat February to catch the early spring interest.

Last season cost about £900 in fuel but this included a 3 week holiday in the channel islands. Reasonable for a family of 3 and costs could be justified.

I will join jezz's depression club. This evening was spent deciding whether to give up or not. If fuel goes up it will kill the joy of holidays aboard. Being reduced to pottering around locally is pretty sad really.

Im really depressed too. New boat has just gone out of the window.

I was going to place an order for a Tarquin Trader 575 as a Christmas present for myself, but if prices are due to fall because of the fuel price rise then I will wait until the summer.

To get to Jersey you avoid the Isle of Wight then head SSW until there's coherent conversation on Ch 23 and ask!
