Went down to boat this morning only to find someone had hit it on the mooring with extensive damage. Needless to say no information as to who it was apart from a lot of their gel coat left in chips over deck and cockpit and blue marks on topside.
Aluminium toe rail severely bent in several places, stanchions bent and topsides abraded gouged and damaged.
Boat starlight 35 -location Chichester harbour.

Not sure where to go for repairs and insurance quote but would be grateful for any recommendations either chichester, portsmouth or hamble.

Thanks

We were faced with a similar situation several years ago on a previous boat. Repairs were carried out by Silverwood Yacht Services at Port Solent. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. They did an excellent job and we have used them since.

Before anything, talk to your insurance. As they will be paying you need them involved from the beginning.

Very sorry to read this. No boat owner deserves to be treated like this. It sounds like a very expensive insurance job, and somewhere put there there is a blue boat with some damage, possibly a fishing-boat.

Berthon repaired "Moody Nicks" Starlight after it was T-Boned in the RTIR and they did a fantastic job. I was so impessed with the work they did, in you position I would look no further.

I used Adrian Mathews at Silverwood for a one off job about three years ago ...and for everything ever since! No hesitation to second this recommendation.

Why possibly a fishing boat? Possibly could be anything that floats

Just a suggestion, because the flare of a motor-boat big enough to do this would have damaged the stanchions and it seems possible that the boat was rough and ready rather than smart. Also, I didn't want to upset any motorboat owners here!

Also at Port Solent are Goodacre Yacht Services and Madge Marine. If you go see them you can get a quote from each and see some boats they are currently working on. All can carry out major repairs.

I think your suggestion is fair; my boat was damaged - fortunately only a smashed rubbing strake - at Poole town quay by a fishing boat crashing alongside while I wasn't there, locals told me as much as that but were apparently intimidated not to identify the ****

ddodg,

hope it all sorts out quickly and your season isn't too disrupted, I think that an utterly s****y thing someone has done; let's hope Karma gets them !

I have used Goodacres when the rubbing strake was smashed by another boat.

Goodacres commented that they, Desty marine and one other I can't remember were among the very few who could match the exact colour of the gelcoat. Others would do a good job but colour might be a little off. However, they are not cheap.

Ensure that your insurance company is happy with the firms that you suggest you get quotes from and if you have a favourite the trick is to get quotes from outfits that subcontract the work out as they are always more expensive and the insurers will then agree to your choice as being reasonably priced. I shouldn't really say that but insurers will tend to want to go for the cheapest and may need some good reason to go for any other firm.

Rotten of someone to do that and good luck with the repair.

Fair bit of passing traffic there I suppose. Ah well, wishing you swift repairs :)

A similar sounding incident has been reported on Hayling Rescue' Facebook page. Same guilty party perhaps?

"Bizarre and Bizarrer....Sometimes it is very quiet around Chi Har with nothing much going on...........Monday was a nasty day as three HISC yachts were found on their moorings with significant damage...yes the owners have been informed......Muggins searched up Harbour for any miscreant vessels as the villain would have very severe damage to their own boat ......a large wooden boat painted blue over an original red may be the culprit ....nothing found.."

Written in Frank's inimitable style! Seems he has some views on the culprit too!

Your first action is to contact your insurers claim line who will advise what you should do next and make reccomendations of suitable repairers.
Although I was one of the founders of Desty Marine (I left over 12 years ago and have no business connection with them now) both Desty and Goodacre ( Barry Goodacre worked with us for many years), have the necessary skills to repair your boat and return it to you in such a condition that niether you or any subsequent survey would be able to tell that it had been damaged. I can highly reccomend both companies.
