Advice is appreciated.
We are a fit and active older couple living in the Southeast, who are about to change our lifestyle. We have an apartment ten minutes walk from Port Vauban in Antibes and will be spending more time there from April.
The types of activity we are interested in, would suggest becoming a boat guardienne for an Owner normally resident elsewhere but who would like to have a more personal and consistent service.
We could offer: safety and security, adjustments to lines, routine engine and generator runs, simple maintenance work, general cleaning, laundry services, airport transfers, food purchase and stocking, food preparation prior to arrival, local tender operations, and other services as appropriate.
We are able to manage and deliver work very effectively and efficiently.
I have a current PB1/11 (Beaulieu Sur Mer), an RYA Dayskipper (Hamble - Sealine F44) and a VHF license. I have chartered out of Juan les Pins previously but I do not consider myself to be professional crew. (Nor would I particularly want to be). I am also considering other training courses.
I may buy a small boat in the near future.
As an ex-RAF Comms and Radar fitter, Mainframe Computer Designer, and now a Knowledge Management Consultant I have been involved with the Sea and smaller boats and yachts for a very long time.
We have some independent means but more importantly we want to stay physically and mentally active, remuneration is less important.
I am aware of the "difficulties" of doing any kind of work in France but I am interested know whether this sounds like a proposition in the current economic climate or should I just forget the whole idea.
Thanks in advance for your comments.
