I'm not particulary good at close quarter handling and must confess to getting the jitters still when having to berth in an unfamiliar harbour.

I came across this simulator today, still not particularly good at it there either. Have any of you tried it?

Good to pass a few minutes on but I'd be interested in your thoughts on how well it simulates, or am I just poor all round :p

I think the controls are from the Enterpise... energise Mr Scott....

Quick play I think it simulates shafts not legs (but it was quick)
We all have to build up some confidence it like riding a bike. Two bits of advise I was given by my training skipper
1/ Slow do it at a speed that if you hit anything not going to damage it (too much :) )
2/Close quarters: Engage and disengage the throttle [ie short burst with little power - 1st click throttle] and only engage one engine at a time. [alternative engines to go straight]
with practice you can be a little more cocky like with legs drives: port fwd, stb rev and wheel to port and the boat will move to std sideways may need a tad more of less wheel to make it perfect.[IIRC]

I'm not exceptionally good, but I'd need the hull painted every week if I would control MiToS the way I managed the simulator...
I use both hands for my controls, on this thing I have to click to each thing, move, have no concept/feel for how the boat is moving, etc
Sound is also missing, would help

I recon just a waste of time...

Its not that realistic......there a no spectators on the pontoons or clubhouse balcony!

Oh yes. Spectators are a riot. Guarranteed to make a complete ass of myself when people are watching. Operate like an old pro when they aren't. It's not like they put me off, or phase me beforehand going in, but you sure as hell cringe when you find yourself in a muddle and you see them glancing sideways at you with delight.

Noone sees you out in the river:cool:, in the marina when coming in to berth all the heads pop up from cockpits like a load of merkats:encouragement:

Ya well no fine. That was rafting on to you at Vicky Dock. You'd have just whistled bloody Dixie if I had used some Amanzi thrust with my pulpit aimed at your midships, my stern a foot from that blasted shallow marker bouy and a crew who had never been on a boat before and was just along for a joyride. I really could do with a bow thruster in those situations, but no place for it with the Vberth and freshwater tanks. Easier you just walk the pulpit round, I'm having a fag break.
