Boat delivery and collection

Ok, same old question from me regarding sea conditions.

I was due to take my Sprint from Chichester to Swanwick Wednesday morning, and bring new boat back. (Sunseeker Comanche 40). Weather looks dodgy but sea state, wave height possibly ok. I have taken her out in force 4 turning 5 and some interesting waves before. The morning as the wind and tide going the same way, but force 4 gusting 5. Would be crossing Chichester bar about hour before high tide and heading to swanwick during high tide and slack water. Coming back i nthe bigger boat concerns me much less.

Am i being silly in still contemplating this?????????

Easy to say from the comfort of my desk, but unless anything changes significantly I'd be tempted to go for it. Conditions may be a bit "sporty" but should be perfectly manageable. What sort of time (compared to HW) are you anticipating coming back over Chi Bar in the Comanche??

Weather looks to be moderating from just after lunch tomorrow .... from the advice given by the conservancy an hour before HW over the bar will be fine....

"Chichester Bar is normally dredged to approximately 1.5m below chart datum giving a depth of 2m, at MLWS. However, through gradual accretion and after severe gales the bottom can vary markedly and it is then prudent to assume a least depth of 0.8 metres below Chart Datum. Mariners should be aware that ebb tides in the entrance to the harbour can attain a rate of up to 6 knots on springs. With a falling tide and strong winds from a southerly sector a dangerous sea may be encountered. In these conditions it is advisable to exercise caution and cross the bar between three hours before and one hour after HW springs. In very strong winds entry should not be attempted".
