Boat damaged by heavy snow in Antibes!

Thanks to all for the comments. I might be in luck, as I seem to remember my insurance has protected no claims and zero excess if the boat is damaged whilst in the marina. I suppose they might argue it was my fault for leaving it up, and I guess they'd have a point, although many other boats also had theirs up and suffered similar damage.

Isn't the wikipedia post aimed at getting them getting higher up Google, something to do with spiders? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The Schutzstaffel (help·info) (German for "Protective Squadron"), abbreviated SS- or Runic "SS" (Runic)- was a major Nazi organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. The SS grew from a small paramilitary unit to an elite powerful force that served as the Führer's "Praetorian Guard," the Nazi Party's "Shield Squadron" and a force with as much political influence as the regular German armed forces. Built upon the Nazi racial ideology, the SS, under Heinrich Himmler's command, was primarily responsible for the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Nazis during the Second World War.

I dont think fault/personal negligence generally kills an insurance claim. If the boat sank at sea cos you ran aground by mistake it's your "fault" for running aground, but provided it is an innocent accident you ought to be insured. Depends on policy words of course. You could also say your neighbour suffered no damage to his open biminis, so you have suffered bad luck and should be covered.

I think it's the degree of negligence that insurance co's will take account of. Leaving a bimini erected in the Med which is the damaged by weather is not particularly negligent although I have to say plenty of peeps fold theirs away in the winter. But I'm sure an insurance co would take a dim view of, say, allowing the kids to use the bimini as a climbing frame which then leads to it's collapse
As for running aground, I'm sure it would be no problem providing you could prove you were exercising normal caution but say you allowed an inexperienced crew person to helm your boat at night at 20kts whilst you snoozed in the saloon, I guess the insurance co might refuse all or some of the claim
