As an IFA, I am always involved in my clients financial affairs.

I have a young client who has just been made redundant.

He is considering going it alone and to supplement his Gardening business he is going to start cleaning boats.

He is boating aware and use to hard work.

The question is " whats the going rate to clean a boat?

Would you expect materials to be supplied or use owners own prefered makes?

I think it should be done with owner present?

-----------------

service suggested is

Top side:

Clean down using Formula one / similar cleaning agent

Light rub using liquid rubbing compound

Polish with owners brand of polish

I think that is about 8/10 hours work for a 30 / 35 footer?

Marinas will they allow cleaners to come in? I presume they will if with the owner?

views?

Last question whats an acceptable travelling cost?

<font color=blue>A boat my size and doing a really top notch splendid job, all nooks and crannies and bringing it to showroom condition about £400... 2 day job.
A wash and brush up but to a good standard about £70

I want mine done but would not pay a Newbie £400 because he will not have mastered the art. Quite prepared to pay £70 for a real good was, brush up and part polish.

When we brought ours they were talking £ 300 for a full valet, not sure of quality given that everything else they did was crap!
Most marinas are tied in other words they'll expect who ever comes on site to be insured and with Gillingham, if I book a service like this they'll expect it booked through them and they'll take approx 10%.
Would think insurance for a one man band with no history could be expensive.

Just paid in the region of 600 for a complete wash, rub down, and polish on a 365.
That was with the 'tied' marina bloke. Boat out of water so hull easier to do than afloat - otherwise costs more.

After several 'good seeing to's, there seems to be a difference between those who are enthusiastic novices, and those who know what they are doing.

If (and that's a big if) I have someone who know's what they are doing, do it again, I'd specify what is used. 3M for me from now on!
