Hi, we are looking to replace our seawych, which was our first keelboat, with something a little larger. Ideally it would be either bilge keel or drop keel, as we have a drying mooring. Ideally it would be something that would sail at least reasonably well, as i have sailed dinghies for years and i hate having to use the engine. I am drawn to boats such as the anderson 22, seal 22, prelude, etc, however the memsahib keeps drooling over westerly centaurs / berwicks etc, which are no doubt very nice and comfortable etc, but not quite what i had in mind, plus also a lot more expensive than i fancy paying. Has anyone any suggestions of any other types that would be enjoyable to sail, but offer a reasonable accomodation (headroom is not too important), and at not too horrific a price ? (say up to £ 5000)

Thanks, windwatcher

try a Limbo 6.6. I did 3 years ago and have been well pleased. For help, advice & boats for sale try this link:-

UPSIDE :- Fast, relatively easy to sail, swing keel, sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults & 2 children, great fun.

DOWNSIDE:- cramped in the saloon, basic chemical bog, "slams" when sea rough, offset transom mounted outboard.

Jaguar 22 with lifting keel a very useful little boat. Forepak as big as many 32 footers, onboard loo under the forpeak, dinette/sink/cooker so can go on trips>>run aground (as on the Norfolk broads)>>winch up keel and sail off!!!

Also known as the Catalina 22. Can get them for around £2500 ish - nice boats and lots of fun.

ps some people fix an A frame on the fordeck allowing the mast to be lowered for bridges etc - very useful and allows access to far more places
