After a winter of very little interest in Toscana I now have one offer and hoardes of peeps queueing up to look at her, I am also getting loads of calls from Brokers who want a job.

I have had a browse of the RYA site and downloaded their contract but what are the major probs with selling privatly?

Oh, and hello to everybody, I should be around a little more now as things are settling down at work.

We had no probs at all selling/ buying privately. We had MoG at Moodys Used Boat Show last year and only had tyre kickers. Finally sold with an free ad in Boats and Outboards. We found the new boat on the same website. We used the the RYA forms you have - they seem to cover most of the potential issues. Good luck with the sale Ian.

You should try to gather as many documents as possible on the title of your boat. Also show as many receipets as possible for work done.

You will need to complete a bill of sale and be able to show VAT receipts as well as any orther registration documents like Part 1 SSR etc etc.

I would go further and get some kind of agreement set up so that you know where you stand you can see what I have in my selling guide at Total Boating Yacht Brokers and see if thats any use to you.

Best of luck and I hope she sells for you.

Remeber, in general, a fancy contract will only help the buyer, not you. Absent anything in a contract, the terms of the sale are caveat emptor. In which case, the best answer for you is to have no written contract, just hand over a bill of sale when you have cleared funds, and you'll be ok

You might need protection while buyer's surveyor broddles about with your boat, but it's as easy to protect your interests just by being there, as it is to write a cntract

If the sale is to be lengthy and so you take a deposit, buyers will invariably want a written contract. In fact most of the standard contracts deal with what happens to the deposit money

Nick2 seems to be expert on this
