Boat buying and documentation

Hoping to buy a boat for the first time. It will of course be "pre-loved" and all well I'll keep it for sometime, deriving much pleasure. Likely to be 30+ years old.
What paperwork should I be looking for from the vendor?
How does one actually go about safely paying for the boat in a private sale.
It all seems a bit daunting to start with.

Hi, I bought my first boat last year and many helpful resources were available on the RYA website, all details on initial contract agreements, checklists, etc, plus downloadable documents that can be used to help. MCA bill of sale forms can be downloaded from the government MCA site, plus advice and guidance.
