Hi everyone,l am presently playing with Captain Voyager, and have some
BMP charts l have scanned which need to be BSB/kap, to work with the
Captain. Could someone help with a program to do this(or how ever, else
it can be done). l am now based in Tasmania and would appreciate any
charts that some one may have of down this way. Would be happy to swap
with what l have. Also using Seasclaer, but currently learning on both. Am
l correct,in that, Seasclear only does North up, not course up as
well.Hope someone can help
Regards

Sorry I dont think there is a conversion program for this that I know of.

Seaclear is a great piece of free software, but you are correct it only does north up.
You would need Maptech Offshore Navigator if you wanted to improve the features for raster handling and performance over and above seaclear.

Seaclear will of course use your BMP scanned charts and convert them to it's own format.
There is a utilty within seaclear for this and also for calibrating them.

One of the problems with BSB/KAP files is that the format has now changed to BSB4..which encypted the data making it impossible to use them with programs such as seaclear.

There is an expert hereabouts on Seaclear ...Nigel...Small_boat_champ, who also runs a GPS forum on Yahoo. He may be able to help you, but I dont think at present the conversion is possible.

No expert ....... but ...

Have already had chat about this with poster ....

I don't know of any conversion program to create a BSB / KAP file. I think the biggest problem is that the KAP file contains so much other data as well as the graphic ...

It is possible to convert KAP / BSB to tif ....

Seaclear appears only to have North UP .... which I do not find a problem - having been a ships navigator all those years and working North UP ....

Cap'n Navigator .... tried it and was annoyed at its chart handling .... but in some ways it is a powerful program - and again typical USA style !! The daft Old Man of the Sea Logo .....

Originally a number of people - such as Ollie of Seaclear fame - paid their dues and were licenced to run KAP / BSB creation software .... so it is out there ... and possibly could be found, especially that Maptech who took over BSB from originators then instigated the BSB4 format to cut out other licenced BSB creators such as Seaclear etc.

Interesting topic and one that needs investigating ....
