Ive just completed rebuilding my BMC 1500. On start up and subsequent running ive found that it bellows out loads of blue smoke all the time. Its run for about 4 hrs in total since i first started it on saturday and theres been no improvement. It doesnt appear to be using oil but its difficult to tell as it hasnt run enough to say. Oil pressure normal, temp normal and it sounds healthier than ever.

Also, the head gasket is weeping a little on the cylinder closest to the flywheel. Could this be the cause? or does it just need to run in? The injectors and pump havent been touched as they were overhaulled two years ago and only had about 250hrs work after that.

Any thoughts on this anyone?

Mine smokes too

I also have a BMC 1500. Runs fine, but strats like a pig whan cold and smokes until it's up to running temp (ca. 75-80°C), but then it's fine. Even had the injectors cleaned a few months ago.
My suspision lies with the diesel, but I've not tried using a new supply yet.
Maybe just take her out for a good long run.

If you head gasket is leaking you have a problem that you need to investigate, it could be as simple as the head gasket wasn’t lined up correctly or that you have trapped something under it. If it isn’t lined up it could be passing oil to the combustion chamber. A leaking head after rebuild is a sign something is amiss.
In short remove the head and have a look.

Hi, I've got the T80 with exactly the same problem, blue smoke on startup - disappears when under load, high revs or when warm.
just had the injectors done, all with new nozzles, and is exactly the same. Engine is an excellent starter and doesn't use oil, which if there was any sort of ring or head problem I would think would happen.
I've got a guy coming to look at it, and one possibility that has been mentioned from more than one source ispump timing.
Will keep you informed as to what happens.

I would have thought the blue smoke would be usual after a rebuild. you would have oiled the components and that is burning off. Im not sure what you mean about the cylinder head leak. is there water coming out onto the external surface or are you finding water in the oil. have you torqued down enough it may be worth retorqiung before stripping down again

Run it so it's smoking and try slackening the injector feeds one at a time. If the smoking stops when one is loosened it's that cylinder. If it's the one that has the weep it could be injector or an oil gallery in the head gasket pumping into the combustion space. If it doesn't make a difference it could be pump timing or still the head gasket. Head off time.
