Noticed the link on the home page to the trials on Coniston Water for the newly refurbished Bluebird, indicate that the 10 mph speed limit could be a problem so they are having an enquiry!!
Gawd give me strength!!
Elf n' safety eat yer art owt ....
I suppose that means employment for another raft of parasites whilst we have 6 enquiries on the merits or otherwise of the proposal for 1 day of speed trials.
No wonder we are grovelling out of recession ...................

Trouble is ther eare a lot more people using the lake now than in the 60's, we are more "safety concious" in that we expect others to take care of us (then it was your own look-out) and people have come to expect low sppeds as the limit has been in force a long time. Consequently, more people are at risk, the risk is higher & the consequences (possible legal action) are much greater.

So it goes, it was an era of no airbags, reinforced passenger cells, crash helmets or seatbelts & kapok life jackets that absorbed water over several hours in the water. A return to those values might reduce our excess population & overcrowding issues however.

I was involved with Tony Fays attempt in the 80s there was restrictions then and permission had to be granted. We had two weeks in November FFS it was freezing cold and wet and windy, blew the marque down twice.
The organisation was extremely good, as to checking out all the lake and who and what was on it. So it is all in place with the lake authority just the present day red tape to get round.

I am not sure if they still hold the propeller driven speed trials there of late.
It looks like they do have a look at this link.:-
