Jabsco type pumps... The type without an O ring...

If the gasket on the end plate is defective... heres what I did...

Use bluetack... Clean up the two surfaces of the t pump...

Roll some bluetack into a thinish roll an eighth of an inch or so in diameter and approximately 6 inches in length and apply to the perimeter of the pump cover pressing the two ends together...

Replace the cover-plate on the pump...

With the pump running tighten down the holding screws until tight...

Hey presto a perfect watertight gasket...

It worked for me anyway.

Using Blutack as a gasket is an interesting idea but I have reservations over its long term use as it's not elastic like a rubber O-ring and doesn't have very high adhesion to smooth surfaces line RTV silicone, which also has long term elasticity. In an environment which is above atmospheric pressure I would not be surprised to find that it does begin to weep in due course. However, if it works, that's all the proof you need. :)

I wonder if it would be any good for bedding down deck fittings, such as stanchion bases? I'm getting a bit narked off with half-used tubes of expensive sealant going 'off'.

Butyl strip is what you need keeps for years and is like a stronger blue tack.
