Jabsco type pumps... The type without an O ring...

If the gasket on the end plate is defective... heres what I did...

Use bluetack... Clean up the two surfaces of the t pump...

Roll some bluetack into a thinish roll an eighth of an inch or so in diameter and approximately 6 inches in length and apply to the perimeter of the pump cover pressing the two ends together...

Replace the cover-plate on the pump...

With the pump running tighten down the holding screws until tight...

Hey presto a perfect watertight gasket...

It worked for me anyway.

I'd always used Jet-Lube V2 PLUS in places like that, but only because I've always got a tub of it to hand.

From this paper found on the internet it looks like BluTack could be used on the outside of oil leaks without even having to dismantle the parts .

Using Blutack as a gasket is an interesting idea but I have reservations over its long term use as it's not elastic like a rubber O-ring and doesn't have very high adhesion to smooth surfaces line RTV silicone, which also has long term elasticity. In an environment which is above atmospheric pressure I would not be surprised to find that it does begin to weep in due course. However, if it works, that's all the proof you need.

I wonder if it would be any good for bedding down deck fittings, such as stanchion bases? I'm getting a bit narked off with half-used tubes of expensive sealant going 'off'.

Butyl strip is what you need keeps for years and is like a stronger blue tack.
