Blue Book

Hi All,

I'm digging deeper into sailing on the Bristol Channel. I've bought a chart set and Peter Cumberlidge's new guide, which seems very good. I'd like to try and get a copy of the elusive Blue Book, which seems to be out of print. Anyone know how I might get hold of one? Are we talking hen's teeth/family heirlooms here?

The book is indeed out of print,however I suggest you give Watchet Marina a call, as they took a good stock of the last issue.
If you have no joy, give me a call I have one last copy.

I have me Blue Book!

Young chap who works with me lives in Watchet and picked it up.

Reading it I found a name I know from here - TonyBarebones - on the BCYA committee.

Haven't read his book - what does he do.

On page 145 he says the holding in the bay is generally very poor because of the coarse shingle bottom but that there is a sandy bit opposite the thatched cottages which is okay in quiet weather. He suggests that the prudent mariner will lie to "two heavy anchors" if staying the night.

I haven't sailed the Channel yet so can't offer any practical experience, however Peter's books seems excellent imho and has really opened up the whole idea of sailing in this area to me.

I mean, 40ft tides, 4-8kt currents, mud and shifting sandbanks: how difficult can it be?
