Blowy at the Ferry

The wind maps only reckon about 15-15 mph winds at Windermere, but the ferry's straining at the cables. It's traversing the lake well of it's normal track.
There's a RYA teaching boat practicing gybes across the other side.

We were watching a red funnel ferry at lunchtime taking three goes to come alongside 25 berth in Southampton. They're using our dock 'cos they've dented their proper one, and one of the ferries, and he was trying desperately not to dent another one.
A good day to be on the land watching the sea, rather than the other way around.

On of the best experiences I have had is being on the Waverly on the Clyde easily dropping off passengers in a force 7 with touch control of the paddles and superb warping by the crew

I remember travelling to Grimsby from Hull and back on the Lincoln Castle. I did take cars from a Vauxhall dealer in Hull to Grimsby and come back as a foot passenger now and then. They would use the fast flowing current past the Minerva Pier to move sideways into the berth. Very impressive.
The pier with the roof on is the floating drive-on ramp. Mainly gone now.

That's nothing! The wind blows so strong around Poole that the ferry has to have a chain to pull it across. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Norman had a trick when crossing the Humber on the Lincoln Castle. He'd start to speed his gait on approach, eventually breaking into a hurried trot then a full sprint. His daughters (one of whom I'm married to) were reduced to tears as the crowd behind ran after him as he obviously knew the ferry was about to depart

We celebrated his 60th on board
