Bloomin\' burgees again...

I belong to two Yacht Clubs. Is it o.k. to fly one burgee at the masthead with the correct ensign and the burgee of the other club at the spreader? If so which side is correct? Or is this too much flagage? You do tend to see people with all manner of things flying at a spreader as if it makes them more important. Ta.

Perfectly OK. But remember nothing must be flown at the spreaders superior to a National ensign (courtesy) which should be flown from the starboard spreader halyard.

Re: Bloomin\' burgees again...

There is guidance on this in the RYA's booklet C4 "Flag Etiquette and Visual Signals"
http://www.rya.org.uk/shop/products/Pages/c4.aspx

Traditionally a yacht normally displays only one burgee and the custom of wearing one at the truck and another at the starboard cross trees is not strictly correct.

A flag officer of a club should wear his flag officers flag and the appropriate Ensign wherever he is.

An owner who is not a flag officer but is a member of a local club should wear the burgee of that club but if a member of several local clubs should wear the burgee of the senior club except when another club is holding a regatta when the burgee of that club should be worn. Similarly when attending an event organised by one of the clubs.

It is correct for an owner who is a member of a club with no local affiliations to wear the ensign of that club when in areas where there is no club of which he is a member.

BUT for the full details see the aforementioned booklet. Much more in there than bullshit about flag etiquette anyway.

I thought it was just another flag ettiquette troll but it was marginally better than that.

Alex Moore was obviously bored.Dug out this old thread and added a reply as soon as the next sucker(me in this case)made a reply he/she deleted their post making it look as if I had replied to a years old thread.

Ho Hum...
