Newbie No boat yet and I read the fourum as means of gathering info .

Thought occurred to me , if the heads is blocked would there be any benefit
In filling 5 gal drum with water a pipe and tap attached winching up the mast
to provide a head of water , open the tap .
Will that clear a blockage ?? is there anyone who could make some calculations , as to pressure available and would it compare to mains pressure.

Or is just plain daft

Depends on whats blocking the pipe and how big it is. I had a blockage and a high pressure air hose wouldnt shift it, nor would mains pressure water via a hose.

had to replace the whole pipe.

It might not clear the blockage but you could perhaps sell tickets to the spectators. The combination of a blocked heads and a lot of high pressure water sounds really exciting!

If past the outlet pump - you'd be surprised how much pressure that can exert ...

Friend of mine had his "girlfriend" on board ... she used said facility ... Pumped water in and pumped out ... found water wouldn't budge - in fact exit pump wouldn't move after about 1/4 stroke ... Instead of asking Phil for advise ... she decided to put full weight on pump handle ... to which hose came away from fitting and sh*** ended up all over the place.

She is no longer welcome visitor to his boat ...........

There is always a reason it's blocked ... or won't pump.

I'd expect it would indeed spray everywhere. Might just be easier to locate the blockage and use something to poke it

If you know where in the pipe the blockage is ,remove that section and join the large and growing No of pontoon rythm percussionists that beat the pipe against the pontoon until said blockage flies across the marina to hopefully land in the water and not stick on someone else's boat.
This solution usually works and if your aim is true(young paduan)is free.

IMHO ....

The thread is a wind-up .... Is there anyone actually serious about having a head of water up the mast !!

Your heads has a 7m long discharge pipe? Are you sure it's not a holding tank?

That's what I thought when I made a rough measurement before removal. removed it in 3 pieces, measured it, 7 metres.

Up to the top of the heads, across the top of the heads, down to the bottom of the heads, across the boat to the keel line, around in a circle to the seacock.

If it's ever full, that's a lot of **** /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Why would a newbie be musing about possible bog blockages I wonder? Of all the problems in all the world, you had to ask about this one. (Apologies to film buffs for Casablanca mis-quote)

I think there could be a troll stuck in this thread somewhere.

Not a wind up , I read a previous thread and someone suggested using the hose pipe on the pontoon , yuk (obvious health implications ) so subconscious must have been tryin to come up with alternative . However I do admit to being a more than little board at work .

27 inches of water head equals 1 psi so work it out, how ever most head blockages dont react to brute force, sods law says you have to dismantle
