Sorry, can't believe I have to ask this question but having failed miserablly to obtain any after visits to SCATS, Chanderly, B&Q, Halfords etc.....

Does anyone know where I can obtain:

1) Cast iron blocks (as in block and tackle for lifting things, not the sort for washing lines - look like they would break); and

2) A 1" spark plug socket (or a 1" long nose socket)

Many thanks

Giles

Why cast iron for the blocks? What do you want to lift with them? I find that Barton blocks are relatively cheap for general block and tackle work. Good web source is www.marinestore.co.uk - they'll sell you rope as well.

If you really want iron blocks Davey & Co do galvanised malleable iron ones - they won't deal direct but www.classicmarine.co.uk can get them for you.

Thanks for the clue - I checked the Marine store site for Barton blocks - I had no idea they had such a high load capacity (never really had any reason to think about it before) - I only need to lift about 100kg so they'll be fine.

Its me engine (Albin 10hp) - we are 'fiddling' following re-build and its much easier out than in.

It would be safer if you use a chain hoist for this; then you don't need to hang onto the rope all the time and no danger of dropping the load. Hire one or buy one from Screwfix.

cheers,

I always use my mainsheet when I have to raise the engine.I now have a 130kg Beta but before that I lifted my old Bukh that weighs 220 Kg with the mainsheet tackle and the kicking strap in paralel.
