JUST before we slipped lines on Friday night the engine fought for breath and died - I waited until Sat morning before attempting to bleed the fuel system as it was my first time -- Yanmar YSM 8 - Single cylinder.

Bled through to the injectors and high pressure fuel line and it did start. The instructions talked about rotating the fly wheel to 'hear' the sound of the injectors and 'feel' the differences in tension ahead etc.

Used the hand crank but got no resistance and heard nothing.

After the engine started she spent a few minutes getting back on her feet. Loosing rev's then gaining them. After about 5-mins she was running as normal, I ran her ahead (in-gear) and put the batteries on to charge.

1) Is this rev cutting/returning issue normal after bleeding the fuel system?

2) WHat should I do to FEEL the resitance and HEAR the injectors - I must bne missing a step but the manual wasn't much help!

Thanks

hi, the qustion is... why did you need to bleed the engine in the first place?

Suspect a small air leak which would give symptoms described .. and will happen again unless you finf and sort it!

Hello

Take a look at the following link and go to the YS section, it has lots of info concerning similar problems
http://www.freeboards.net/?mforum=yanmarhelp

My recommendation, after reviewing your report would be to check out the decompression system as there should be significant resistance to hand cranking the engine with this closed. In fact on a good engine you wont be able to hand crank without using the decompression!
Good luck with fixing the problem

The sound of the injectors is a very characteristic 'creak'. Unmistakable when you know what you are listening for. But at first, it is hard to believe that it is not just the starting handle or something similar creaking.

Dont remove the injector from a YSE 8 or 12
unless u have a spare seal/ gasket ( polo shaped washer, thingie ) there only once useable items.
the Yse are self bleed just " crack the injector union for starters with the starter motor turning the engine tighten union when engine is running

Needed to bleed fuel supply, as I ran the engine dry - the fuel cock was closed and I ran the engineuntil it could run no more, before I realised what I'd done!
