Evening

I've just got back from servicing the 2020D engine on my Hanse. All in all it took about 4 hours which includes warming the oil and testing at the end / topping up levels etc. The bleeding of the fuel system - which also has a pre filter took an age - nearly an hour to pump, opening the prevent and then the fuel filter vent etc..., as previously said the instructions on the manual are vague so it was a bit trial and error. Any hints and tips for next time ?

Cheers

I use my brass suction pump which is normally used to suck out the old engine oil. Put it out the outlet of the pre-filter and then 3 or 4 pumps will have the bowl filled and primed.
The secodary filter I fit dry. By cranking the engine with one injector cracked off half a turn. Within 30 seconds she is up and running. just crack the other 2 injectors in turn to purge the systm of air.

Do you have the VP workshop manual with the fuel bleeding pages in? Most copies on line are missing these. I have PDF if you PM your email address. A VP engineer working on my 2030 in Holland use a pela pump onto the fuel pump bleed screw, to pull fuel through, very effective. I always use the engine to bleed, turn the engine over with the seacock closed, will start in seconds.

Hi

Thanks for the tips, I have the operators manual unfortuantly not the workshop manaual. I did do a search of the forums whilst cursing on the time it took but could'nt find a thread !

I had a boat once where I had to put a mole grip on the tank breather pipe to seal it and use the dinghy pump to pressurise the tank (rag round the pump outlet stuck in the filler.) The technique filled the coarse and fine filters in seconds. It was hours of pumping to little or no avail otherwise. The lift pump didn't like pumping air and it was a brand new engine too.
