Hi, the range of rotation on my seacock handle is limited by the head and the soil pipe. Is there a trick to removing the handle? I would like to change it for a wheel or otherwise raise it so I can get full rotation.
The handle is just a push fit, so just lever it off.
The photo shows the handle in the fully off position, the arrow on the top of the cone points to the hole in the cone.
Turn the handle 180 deg clockwise and the seacock will be fully open. That's all the movement you need.
The handle is just an interference fit and should just slide off. However, they can tend to get sticky after a time and require a bit of coaxing.
If the boat is afloat, try warming it a little heat with a heat gun whilst levering the handle up and down. If ashore, remove to bench and persuade it to come off !
I have 6 Blakes cones off the boat at the moment. No amount of heat, levering, hitting with a hammer has got a single handle removed. I think they're a shrink fit.
And 90 degrees is all the travel you need, either side of open.
