Following on from yesterday's post on moving and fitting a Blake's Seacock, I am going to service this new to me, S/H Blake's before final fitting.
Does anybody know the NGLI Classification for Blake's Seacock grease please?
The reason I ask is, I have a grease gun already set up with grease for a Darglow Featherstream prop which is NGLI 1 grade of grease and wondered if it might be the same as Blake's, and therefore suitable to use?

As ever thanks for any input
Philip

I am not sure whats in it but do it right and use the blakes green grease, yes usually more expensive but excellent product usually lasted me 2 years in between servicing the heads sea cocks

I, too, have a grease gun already set up with grease for a Darglow Featherstream prop and I have no hesitation in using it on my Blake's seacock and the bottom bearing of my aged Whitlock Cobra steering pedestal.

As well as the Darglow grease, I have a pot of green grease supplied to me some years ago by a local marine engineer for use on a stern tubes. it comes in a white tin, like Blake's, but unfortunately it doesn't have a label. It does have a antiseptics smell to it though, does Blake have a smell at all?

I could use that I suppose but then it would mean buying another grease gun to put it in?

Strange co-incdence!

I've just today learned about NGLI 1 grease for my Featherstream (the fitter of the new engine & prop wasn't kind enough to pass it on...) and am finding it hard to obtain.

Anyone able to advise a source for a waterproof/marine version of that spec that competes with Darglow's rather adventurous price?

I use Blake’s seacock grease in my feather stream prop In a yacht auxiliary. Have done so for 5 years. It does not appear to wash out after 6 or even 12 months.
I'd have thought the blake's stuff was a bit thick for feathering props but if you haven't encountered any problems then it can't be that critical.

I'd try Rocol Sapphire 1 or perhaps SKF LMCG1, but they aren't necessarily the same as the Darglow, just the same thickness: perhaps phone Darglow up, claim to be somewhere remote and ask for equivalents?
