I would like to ask if anybody knows of a good source of spares for older Blakes Sea cocks. Either from stock or as a special job to be made up. I have tried the company itself (SeaSure) but they do not seem to hold any spares for older models or be too interested.

In particular I need the face plates and bolts (2 1/2" cup square bolts) for the heads outlet (1 3/4" diameter spigot through hull), the strainer face plate for the heads inlet (1 1/4" diameter), and the similar sized plain face plate for the galley outlet.

I judge that these sea cocks have been in the boat - a Harry King built East Anglian - since she was launched in 1963. In each case, when removing the fixing bolts, the external face plates crumbled away, as did the nuts. In general though the bolts themselves still seem to be in fair shape, and the sea cocks themselves are fine and very well embedded in the 1" planking.

Thank you for any leads or advice.

I got new Bronze bolts for mine here....it's a '66 built craft. they'll do most stuff given enough time and money I suppose. They're so friendly and helpful I reckon it's worth paying what they ask for the hard-to-get bits...either that or do without...not an option in your case I think.

If you are in the Gosport area, try http://www.solentmarine.co.uk on Mumby Road, opposite the current Crewsaver factory.

Very helpful and they have most blakes / taylors parts in stock.

I've had loads of stuff through them, all at good prices, but all bought in person in the store not by mail.

Mail order distributors can be found at http://www.blakes-lavac-taylors.co.uk/distributors.htm, which I use to check that the local store's prices are OK.

Hope that helps.
