I read somewhere that Primocon is a great primer to use when working with unknown substrates.

We do a lot of sailing so have decided to use Blakes classic antifoul. I was told that using this on top of Primocon will be fine by my suppler.

However as with everything, a know it all at the marina got me worrying last night. I'm pretty confident, but is there anyone out there who could either confirm or deny this. Or if there are any special preparations I should make to the primocon?

thanks very much.

Yes Primocon or Hempel/Blakes Underwater primer.

Consult the manufacturer's product data sheets for all the info regarding the use and application

I have found that Hempel Underwater Primer gives better results than International Primocon. Anyway since you will be using Hempel/Blakes antifouling I would certainly recommend Hempel primer. I think it makes sense to stay with a single manufacturer to be sure of compatibility.

An antifouling primer serves as a barrier coating to prevent a possible reaction between different antifouling paints. Since, by definition, it sits between two different antifouls, one of which might be unknown, I would say that it is highly unlikely for such a primer to be incompatible with the AF that is applied over it.
