Hi to all those I saw out on the Blackwater today.

I'm sure I saw Grace out. Apologies to those that I gave a very muted wave to.
I'd run out of hands and spent alot of my trip today with main sheet and Jip sheet in one hand and the tiller in the other.. (I was experimenting a bit! :D )

Obviously when I actually sit down for 10 minutes and work out how the auto-tiller works properly, things will improve.

A smashing October day though.

cheers,

Nick

Dovercourt Bay was very nice yesterday :D

Super day yesterday but didn't get out sailing (late night on Saturday and overslept somewhat!) Had a great day messing about on the boat though, actually got some little jobbies done!

Didn't see you on Saturday Fire99, but we had a really nice sail around midday from Mersea to Tollesbury, lots of lovely wind :D

I had a challenging sail on Saturday.

I had a late start due to having to fix the car, but managed to get 23 nm in, arrived back at the marina in late twilight and realised that there are no lights on the entrance (its very cheap!)

The wind was variable ranging from tippy uppy flappy stuff touching 7knots on the log to dead calm 5 minutes later! Oh and a couple of stinging rain storms too.
Passed 400 nm for the season, which is a nice landmark and target for next year!

Well I think I need to make a note of the people I see. By the time I got to Brightlingsea I couldn't remember any other than 'Grace'.
Bit worrying for a 30 something to have no short term memory. :D

Saying that by the time I got into Brightlingsea it was getting dark and there was about a teaspoon of water under the hammerhead so I was a little pre-occupied.

Certainly glad i'm getting out on my own though. It's nice knowing you don't need to rely on finding a sailing-buddy when you suddenly feel like a sail.

Missed that as well unless it was the boat that followed us out of Bradwell but I would have thought that would have been well past there by 1.30 unless he was on his way back.

No, she was heading down with the ebb. Passed us just downriver of the Thirslet Spit Buoy, as we headed upriver. About 45 feet, classic lines, modern 9/10th sloop rig . Underwater, they have ultra-modern appendages - blade keel with bomb & skegless balanced spade rudder. One of them was used in a Venice scene in the Bond film 'Casino Royale'. You see more of them on the Orwell, where they are built (costa fortune!)

They are gorgeous boats and fast too.

Went on the 54 footer at SIBS on a whim - they were very accommodating considering it was right at the end of the day - and they are just works of art above and below decks. If money was no object and you bought with your heart...

They are built just near Ipswich Haven marina, I wandered around there with my sons last time we were there and took some pics of the ones in the water. If my lottery number ever comes up...;)
