I recently had to replace the macerator pump on our boat and in doing so I've discovered that the "Y" valve and the hose from the tank to the "Y" valve also need replacing. The valve is leaking from every joint and the pipe has become hard and impossible to work with. My plan is to dispense with the "Y" valve and run the pipe directly into the macerator and it seems like a good idea to fit some sort of in-line isolating valve just after the output from the tank, so that I can then isolate one from the other and make any future work a little less unpleasant :disgust:. However, I cannot find a suitable valve that will mate with the 38mm pipe. Does anyone know of such a device?

You can either use the expensive Whale valve or a straightforward metal plumbing valve.

However they are not replacements for Y valves as you have 3 pipes to deal with. Where does the other pipe go to?

I don't have a link right now but keep looking as my boat's black water system is full of inline plastic 38mm valves to isolate pumps and WCs and they have worked flawlessly 5 years and counting. If I get time to spot the brand name tmrw I'll report back. I think Hansen valves not whale but stay tuned.

Thank you all for your responses. As I said, there will be no need for a "Y" valve in the new set-up -- we have never used the vacuum pump out feature and indeed there is no pump out facility in, or near to our marina. JFM -- if you do happen to spot the make of your valves I would be very pleased to know what they are.

Nick.
