How best to treat items that where the black rubber or plastic is going white or sticky?

Have just tried 92% alcohol, and it remains to be seen if it works (awaiting it to dry). It has removed black stuff and tentatively looks like it may be working. Searching said to use iso propanol but I only had cleaning alcohol to hand.5D2DCD70-8044-4AC7-8CE4-B9845D4101BF.jpeg

What ever you do, don't look up "black sticky rubber" on the Internet!.
The feet on my drysuit went a bit sticky, so I went to Google and saw many things my mother never told me about. I'm still in therapy

Depends on the "rubber". If it's actually rubber, then replace it. It if's some kind of silicone then cornflour can work, if it's coating something to give it that soft rubber feel then usually stripping it off is best

By “actually rubber” I meant natural rubber type stuff which goes sticky when it rots so can’t usually be saved. On rereading it didn’t seem clear
