Anyone experience of using black box radar, chartplotter etc and hooking up to monitors?

I'll be replacing all the kit on Play d'eau next season and am trying to get a grip on what's what and any implications there may be.

All help gratefully received.

black box equipment

I havent seen or heard of any devices or software in the leisure industry. However i hope the marine insurance industry dosent cop on to any such devices! That will be the next hoop we have to jump through to get reasonable insurance or pay through the nose as usual!

Commercial kit is an arm and a leg, so i suspect that a hybrid system might be better for the average leisure user. I'm currently looking into options myself. Current thinking is to network to my Raymarine C90W. I could then have two screens by using Raytech RNS or just use the NMEA data with some other software. Could use a mini PC with a daylight viewable monitor. I'm going to try networking a touch screen rugged tablet, just ordered one so i'll post on here with any results i get.

I'd also be interested to hear of anyone elses findings in this area.

As most on here know, I've done something similar using Raymarine's G Series.

The main concept is that a PC is also fed to the nav displays but, importantly, does not affect the way that dedicated Raymarine kit works.
The PC is a, fundimentally, separate system providing extra facilities that the Raymarine kit doesn't.

See my recent write up in MBY.
