Bl**dy Volvo\'s!!

Another tale of Volvo woe...

We were having a really good weekend until we blew a piston on one of our tamd 72's on the way back from Titchmarsh.

Volspec took a look today and confirmed no compression and had that look that said be prepared for a very large bill. They're coming back tomorrow to take the heads off and have a proper look.

If all suspicions are confirmed, the boat will have to be lifted out for the engine to be craned out - and we need to have the patio doors taken off before it will fit!

We'd like to get an alternative quote for the work. Can anyone recommend a specialist who would undertake this kind of work on the East Coast?

Cheers

Re: Bl**dy Volvo\'s!!

Very sorry to hear about your problems, and to make it worst you've only just got this one. Pauljs_eng is our regular Volvo expert maybe he can help you, prehaps send him a PM.

I wish you good luck, and low cost!

RM.

Re: Bl**dy Volvo\'s!!

Hope its not a similar problem to mine or you might aswell right off the engine.

Hiya Steve and Tracey
Oh no what a bummer, sorry to hear this.
There is a fellow near you that will be able to point you in the right direction.
His name is Alan Goodfellow, he has a workshop in Essex Marina. If you go to the marina office they should be able to contact him for you. He's a mine of information on who can do what. Well worth asking him before parting with the megabucks.
Hope this will help. See you soon.

T + S, I'm really sorry to hear this. I wonder if the failing engine had anything to do with the reduction in speed you were experiencing?

Re: Bl**dy Volvo\'s!!

Hi,
If it is a rebuild it may be worth talking to Paul Grieve at Coastal Rides on 01303 262300. He is based in West Hyte in kent, It sounds strange but he will probably be much cheaper including traveling up and removing, or shipping the engine down to him. He knows his stuff and does a gooid job.
Good luck and I hope you get back on the water soon.
Regards,
Eddie

Re: Bl**dy Volvo\'s!!

Thank you all for your valued and informed comments. Volspec are still looking at the engine at the moment, but we know that No 6 piston is broke and it's cracked the head, so now we're looking at what remedial action to take - and what caused it. Looks like we could have picked up something in the impellor (sp?).

Cheers
