Why do boats have so many bl.ody numbers????

MMSI, Hull Number, Official Number, International radio callsign, EPIRB reg number, and then to top it all off a name!!!! WHY for God's sake??? What's wrong with a system similar to the aviation world. 1 craft = 1 reg mark it would be soooo simple!!

Rant over (fed up of sorting numbers out!!)

While your point is valid, I think you'll find that aircraft have even more numbers / references than boats .... even down to each 'rotable' part having a full life history officially...

and they take on a diffferent 'persona' every time they fly ....imagine having to give your boat a new number for every voyage it makes...., and a different callsign to that !

True, but it's like including the boats engine, generator, tender, sail numbers which I haven't. I'm talking about Craft identification. Aircraft parts are numbered to ensure traceability in the event of a fault not life related issues, that is referenced from the aircraft log book. The international identifier of an aircraft is it's callsign ONLY.
