The coments in the previous post on the Rival / Anti foul topic referred to BKYC. I note that the Flamingo is still there but there is no mention mention the Kranik. Both were wooden Burmudan sloops (sisters) and I sailed on them in early 70's. I was offered a berth for the tall ships in the Olympics but my position was given to an under priviliged person instead! I was under proiviliged thats why I joined the army!! They apparently belonged to Goering and were taken as windfall at the end of the war. I was informed of the previous ownership by a Danish Surveyor whilst moored up somewhere in the Baltic.
Great days.

I also browsed the bkyc website yesterday, it was great to see the place and see all the old pics, I learnt to sail with the bkyc in the early 80's then ended up there at least 2 weeks a year, my first sail was on the rasmus, the 50m square meter, then on the contessa 28's during sail training, and as crew on numerous regatta's representing the corps and division i was in, ending up chartering with a joint service crew for a week up to copenhagen and a couple of the islands on the way back... great memories, with some faded pics to browse here at home...

That brings back memories, I skippered 3 expeditions from there in Contessa 32s in the early 80s. On the first I did a mayday relay for the second boat, we had 3 people on each boat that could read morse at 30 words a minute but the signal lamps were so slow that the only thing they could read was SOS. It made for an interesting night and I learned a lot about myself.

Kranich was sold to a local buyer about 10/11 years ago as a restoration project. Sadly her hull was rotting from the inside due to earlier cladding in GRP. Rasmus was also sold; but in seagoing condition to a local consortium. I met her in Sonderburg two seasons ago When I was there in my own yacht Ragna R. The folks at BKYC keep Flamingo in spanking condition as they do their modern fleet of sail training yachts ( currently Halberg Rassy ). BKYC is always worth a visit when you are out in the Baltic, which in itself is a very worthwhile trip from the UK. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
