This is a call to multihulling Scuttlebutters.
I am drumming up support for the Royal Torbay Yacht Club's Triangle Race multihull class. This is a new division for the former Yachting Monthly Triangle Race. As many of you will know the race is a two-handed classic which leaves from Torquay (bitter) on Sunday 11 June and has compulsory stop-overs in Crosshaven (Guinness) and Treguier (wine) before returning to Torquay on Thursday 22 June (prizegiving Friday 23 June).
The race has a hard core of serious races but the bulk of the fleet is made up of family cruisers and cruiser racers seeking to expand their sailing horizons. Many entrants also use it as a practice race for longer shorthanded events such as the Round Britain, AZAB and even OSTAR events. The main object, though, is to get to the stop-overs as quickly as possible to enjoy the parties and hospitality of the Royal Cork Yacht Club and Club Nautique de Trequier. The event is excellently organised by the RTYC (I should know, I'm on the race committee).
The multihull class will be run under the handicapping rules of MOCRA and has its blessing. We are looking for a broad spectrum of multis from sporty beasts like the Dragonflies, Farriers and my own Dazcat 10, to the built-for-comfort cats like Prouts, Lagoons etc. We also hope to have a some older designs like the Iroquois, Telstar and Banshee.
With the number of multi-owners growing rapidly on the forum I am sure there must be some of you who would enjoy a mildly competitive booze cruise in the middle of June (longest day, gentle winds etc). So how about it?
More details, the Notice of Race and entry form are available on Triangle Race. Please PM me if you are interested.
