The weather is slowly getting better and hopefully soon we will be heading for warmer climates.

Have you got any cures or remedies for anything nasty lurking out there from mossies to the trots?

I did offer to pee on my wife if she got stung by a jelly fish but for some reason she would prefer something a little more "lady like".

I know natural Yoghurt seems pretty good as an after sun but any ideas you have would be welcome.

Boots own anti-histamine cream is great for mossie bites. Chlorphenamine (Piriton) tabs are also useful. We can't buy them here in Greece but you can get them in most supermarkets and all chemists in the UK.

Hot water is the recommended treatment for weever fish stings and we have also found it effective for jellyfish. We use the pen-like applicators for insect bites, they mostly work well. I used one for both bee and wasp stings and found it helped.

half an ONION on a bee or wasp sting works. Eating marmite tends to keep the mozzies off you and directs them to others (hee hee). Bring anti-histamine tabs with you for toxic shock treatment.

Avon Skin-so-soft is a very effective deterrent for midges and no-see-ums. So good they'd do far better selling it as an insect repellent than a moisturiser. Didn't seem so effective on full-on mossie's though. No help if you've already been bitten either.

Fenestril is good to stop itching from bites (or plants).. available most med pharmacies as far as we've found. DEET the only real repellant, appropriate clothing .. to avoid mossies (all over .. thin in evening, ) to avoid snakes and scorpions proper shoes/walking boots.. yes even when its hot. and watch what you sit on. There's also venom sucker devices available tho I haven't found one yet.

Vinegar, when irritation gets silly anti-histamine cream, when it gets really silly cortisone cream and oral anti-histamine ;)

Anyone know if you can buy these over the counter in France.

I wondered about cures or aids that you may have on the boat if no dedicated medicines were available.. like vinegar, youghurt etc.

I did see with sea urchins you are supposed to put the hottest water available onto the effected part which helps dispel the poison and then your body should be able to cope.

Apart from carrying every cream known to man, we also have lavender oil and tea tree oil (burns and stings/bites respectively).

White vinegar for sea urchins. Do not try and dig out their spines, they will disolve over time.

SWMBO stood on a nasty sea urchin once when we were in Malaysia.

The island bar kept a wooden butter pat which the barman used to tap on the sole of her foot. It shattered the spines and provided instant relief.

You can buy a cream called "Onctose Hydrocortisone" over the counter, which contains an anti-histamine, a local anesthetic, and hydrocortisone, and is recommended for the relief of insect bites.
In the UK, I'd recommend Benadryl cream.
