I'm trying to set up a webcam for my local river mouth, so i can see if it's worth the 40 minute trip to go to sea.I have a cheap android phone and was thinking about making it solar powered and putting it in a project box. I can get webcam software for it ok but i think getting it to work over 3g might be a problem (NAT problem no external IP address).

Any ideas?

bbc weather

it sounds like a fun project

will you make a website so that anyone can watch the images from your web cam

although

just a bit of a left field idea

I usually find the BBC weather pretty good

and there is also windguru

For still images, easy, just get software that uploads the latest image to your el cheapo web hosting account every few minutes.

For video, find someone with a dedicated server and a helpful attitude (or rent a VPS for £15 a month if you are UNIX savvy) and run a re-broadcasting proxy.

The easiest way is probably to use a video chat app with auto answer? Anyone know an app which does this? I'd like to set it up so anyone can view over the web but it may be too complicated for lil me.

I use passage weather for most of my needs but nothing beats seeing the bar. It's difficult to judge and a couple of hours can make a massive difference in conditions! Wind speed, direction and tides (even rain) all come into it and seemingly similar conditions make huge variations in the actual conditions.
