Can anyone tell me why we might have two aerials of our boat.

Nick doesn't know and I think it may be something to do with the VHF being Duplex if that makes any sence.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Joanne

My boat went back in the water today - Yipee!! (Oh - and so did Nicks dinghy)

I doubt very much you have a duplex set-up for the VHF. More likely than not the second one is wired to your car radio if you have one. Or there was a second VHF on the boat at some point. Or someone splashed out for a boat GSM antenna. All of these can be supplied in GRP whip style antennas (which i'm guessing is what you have).

<font color=blue>One aerial per VHF set. Nothing at all to do with Duplex Channel. If you have a VHF on the flybridge and one below you are best off with two aerials. You can have both sets on a switching system but this is not reccomended. Having said that some people put a second aerial up just to even the look up.

Mines got 2 aerials, one is the VHF and the other is the old Decca one that will be a swine to remove.
Do you have 2 x fixed VHF sets?

I think we do have an old Decca system on board. So maybe it is for that.

We are also able to listen to the VHF on the flybridge but only use the one in the cabin.

Thanks everyone

Joanne

<font color=blue>The Decca one can just be left there, just make sure you NEVER try to use it as a VHF aerial. It can be used as an aerail for receiving regular radio (I think)

I intend trying it as a normal VHF/AM radio aerial.

Taking it off is a bit of a nightmare, as the cable threads its way around the boat.

Are you talking about stoves or sewing machines or something along that line?

Re: Brain ...

bumped into the ex-SWMBO this morning. Her words.... "women are the downfall of men". It's best not to argue with her, so I just agreed and said "yes dear, anything you say dear".
