I am planning to take the boat down to plymouth/falmouth on saturday, and then refuel and straight across to lacoruna 430 miles on the sunday, and this post is essentially dedicated to me worrying about the weather....
Probably a tad too early to look at the atlantic chart 5 days off.
Although if you look at Fridays' chart the high that is causing the strong N'lys will move a bit and you might be lucky and have a nice big high pressure system bang on top of the Bay of Biscay!
I am doing a much more modest trip at the same time; Poole to Torquay. I have been looking at the long range forecasts for wind speed and as we get closer to the weekend so the forecast for the weekend has gradually reduced their estimates. We mam be lucky and there is a high moving in as mentioned above.
Northerly on the saturday innit? So, cheapy fuel in Falmouth, in flat sea from solent, no? 34p in SPP when blimmin port solent offered 27p. Miles-wise, same difference for next leg really - but from plym/fal twill be up the chuff all the way and no chenal de four/hell. Nothing fixed yet so please argue away...
So what did yer get from Bouncer or Falmouth Industries, do tell. Falmouth Ind is a bit of a mate. If you mention the boat what set on fire alongside him whilst his gunnals were on water line, he might understand. He always recognises me. Erm (quiet whisper) cash does seem to calm troubled waters and if you kick him quite hard, he seems to get the message eventually. But he deffinatly dont like smoke, muckies eber thingy going off at the rong/ right time made me aware of that. You got any smoky thingys. Well try them anyway. You not tried Shell port Samson?? ask Dom. Esso?? I kud help out of MF's oil drum way out at sea, long pipe and pump, just like RAF, might be easier to just chuck the 45 gallon oil drum at you whilst you pass /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Hmm get 27 p in Yhaven Plym iff beat about Bobby a bit, talk about witches and things, she likes that, Just a thort.
Looking today Matt I reckon Sunday is your day for the Bay.
The wind will be in a nice direction and looks modest in speed and this will also have flattened the swell which in my view is always a bit of an issue here.
SUNDAY
High pressure northwest of Spain at midday on Sunday. A warm front moving eastwards across Scotland in the afternoon, with a westerly flow covering all parts of the country
i think i will nip westwards to plymouth or falmouth to check fuel consumption. If fuel consumoption is high or not good enuf, i will have to drop down to camaret early sunday. If it's ok, i will go straight to la coruna. This weatehr seems to be shifting faster than anticipated, so it mite be ok to go straight out again saturday, or otherwise a have a kip on saturday and set off direct on sunday am to arrive for fuel monday morning in spain.
The only bummer is that i am not brimful of fuel - and the berth is so tight i don't fancy moving it on friday in high wind - so will need to ponce about with the dipstick to get an accurate measure...
