Just wanted to say I crossed Biscay with no problems, and thanks to everybody here for their input and suggestions on completing it. Other than a lack of wind, and maybe 7 hours of sleep over 80 hours, I have no complaints. In the efforts of self-promotion, I wrote everything up here http://www.bigoceans.com/2007/10/30/hello-spain-biscay-smashed/

I highly recommend Commandersweather for weather routing, as suggested by another forum member. They were a bit late on a predicted squall (about 8 hours, which was a God-send) and the winds were lighter than predicted, but the forecast directions were amazingly correct.

I'm wintering in La Coruna now, completely broke. Long shot, but I'm trying to sort out a desk with Internet here to work. Anyone got contacts here?

nick.

Wow Nick. I was just reading your thread re Biscay just the other day. It is heartening to read the reassurance you were getting. Well done I envy you. All this makes me more determined to live the dream.

Hi Nick, congrats in order.

I enjoyed reading your blog of the crossing and pleased to note that Sod's and Murphy's laws seem to apply to other people as well as to me, your inopportune engine failure when you least needed it proves the laws incontrovertibly IMO /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Your blog proves that it *can* be done, even by those of us who seem to be constantly persecuted by Sod & Murphy!!

I guess that there were a lot of people reading your previous post re the forthcoming biscay crossing who are pleased to see that you've made it in one piece.

Best Regards

I was going to congratulate you on your crossing, but now offer commiserations /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Watch out that the weed doesn't start growing around your boat from his. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To be fair, he and Jayne were very helpful to us when we stopped there - they may remember us as the ones who borrowed the steel bar to straighten out the bent pushpit!

Seriously, well done on getting across and taking on the challenge despite your apprehensions.

Have a good winter.

You're not going to believe this, but I literally moored up NEXT TO CAPTAINSLARTY at 3am. He in fact invited me over for tea tonight!

That's why I suggested having a word with him /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The walls have eyes and ears - Spooky!!

If you're quick, contact Captainslarty who is a forumite and currently living aboard ion La Coruna. . He has spent a lot of time the and I'm sure has a few contacts. I say quick, because I had a feeling he was about to resume cruising, but I could be wrong. Ruddles in his boat

Dave in the Darsena, Irish flag, wooden 38ft Ketch "ANASU".

Maria,(JRC Sailmakers), ask for her at the Darsena Office, she is very helpful and has good English.

Marina at Pombo Chandlers, good English and again very helpful.

As suggested Joe and Joe may know if an English lad, Alex is still about, he would be clued up on accomodation etc.
Regards to all the friends I,ve mentioned. Bill.
