I have a 50th Birthday bash to go to this weekend, and my friend is a a fellow boaty. I think a good book would be a great idea, but which one? Does anyone know of a good boating history of the South coast? Beauleigh area in preference. Or any other great ideas needed please!

Sailing alone around the world by Joshua Slocum.
He was the first guy to do so in the late 1800's and did so in a 35ft boat that he built himself.
As facinating for the picture it paints of the world at that time as of the skills of boat handling and repairing that are probably not often found now.

I've never seen anything specifically about Beaulieu.

How about something like Peter Bruce's Solent Hazards?
