Birds blocking my side-deck drains

Its berry season again and birds are sitting on every boat in the harbour chewing sloes.

The mess I can clean up, but the annoying thing is the stones inside them (the sloes, not the birds) which land on the coachroof, roll down the scuppers and block my side-deck drains.

As a temporary fix I have wedged some of that stainless steel pot scourer stuff down the drains, but I am looking for a more elegant permanent solution.

Any ideas?

The drains are about 2cm diameter and are stainless steel. They bend at 90 degress about 8cm from the deck.

To stop the birds in the first place, I 'fly' a life sized hawk between my mast and backstay, similar to this...

A bit difficult to get 'flying' right....... it's best to be moving with the wind up high and not tangled up.

I've lent it to others who have had problems in the past, and if flown high and free it works overnight.

Create a porous dam around the scupper, for example by buying a domestic gutter downpipe mushroom mesh thingy(!) and playing with that.
