Im sure this has been done before but i was reading a thread on PBO of how raggies keep the flying rats away,As i have no mast to stick anything on (as i think most of us in here hav'nt) I was wondering if anybody has been successful in keeping the buggers away.If your like me, on a swinging mooring all year, it gets a bit tedious having to clean the decks every time i go to the boat and getting that stuff off is not easy.

CDs suspended on string , as the wind moves them and the sun reflects from them little rays of light flicker across your boat so the birds fly away and dont settle, also keeps them from settling on neighbours boats which is half the problem.

a couple of clean looking boats in Ocean Village have these flying about on the end of a long flexible carbon pole... going by the state of their boats and the surrounding one's, they seem to be effective and certainly look realistic from a short distance.

A mate of mine has this as a hobby I think. He is so determined to beat them. The best so far is fine netting draped across the boat with beachballs holding off the surface. This seams to put em off landing, but he still get splats from the air. Bit of a faff every time in my book, putting covers on then netting.... but it does seem to work.

There's a boat at our boatyard with rubber snakes on the canopy. There is no bird poo either. Got to be worth a try as its a low cost solution (at least I think it should be but then I don't know how much a rubber snake costs)

Searush has his very own pet seagull that lives on the mizzen. His rubber snakes were liberated pdq after he got a berth on the wall.

Said it before...this could be a permenant solution to bird poo...

IF ONLY...:D::eek::cool::rolleyes:

What a shame that killing the ba****ds is illegal.
Currently have someone (elderly lady) next door to me, that leaves trays of food on her balcony for them to eat from. They then sit on my balcony and cr*p everywhere. Even worse is the fact that our boat is directly below her balcony so we also get meat & 2 veg on our deck!!!!!!

We have tried or seen in "action", CDs, rotating sweeps, snakes, hawks/owls, poly bags etc.
CDs sometimes work but the flashing makes some folk ill, so is a bit antisocial. Apart from the sweeps none of the other methods seem to be of much use at all. Unfortunately a sweep ensures that only its arc is kept clear. Nets definitely work, re. preventing birds settling - keep the mesh small otherwise the birds could get trapped and you'd get reported to the RSPB!! - but as others have said they are a bind to undo and fit every time.
They don't stop being bombed from above anyway.

We've surrendered and our first task on getting down to the boat is s**t cleaning duty.
